Well, here we are about a week out from the Thanksgiving holiday. We all know what that means…Christmas music is right around the corner! Every November, I think about the fact there really are no Thanksgiving songs to speak of (my youngest daughter does have a super adorable song from school though if you ask her). I committed myself this year to try and create a song focused on being thankful regardless of circumstances. It is proving harder than I imagined…

Before we get into that, however, I want to list some of the things I am thankful for this year. I am thankful that God has continued to bless my family through the people at Candia Congregational Church. I am thankful for the opportunities to serve in ministry through a variety of settings this past year. I am thankful that my wife has friends that have committed to consistently calling her to stay in contact with her. I am thankful that my daughters love school and have had awesome experiences learning and playing. I am thankful that we got to visit my parents in Montana this past summer and bring some granddaughter joy to them. Most of all, I am continually thankful for my Savior, Jesus Christ, who offers abundant life to all.

As I mentioned earlier, song lyrics were difficult for me to put together so I’ve decided to post some thoughts with a common thread instead. These are a reminder to me that regardless of where I find myself in life, in highest of highs or lowest of lows, I should find myself thankful to God. Thankful that He is sovereign; thankful that He loves me as a son or daughter; thankful that He values me even when the world (or myself) think I am worthless. I pray that these reminders and praises are helpful for you this Thanksgiving time. Blessings to all of you!

Thoughts/Reflections

When things in life are hard, I can give up or give thanks,

When things in life are great, I can give myself applause or give thanks,

When things in life don’t make sense, I can give my head a shake or give thanks,

When I’m mocked for my faith, I can give hate right back or give thanks,

When temptation comes my way, I can give in or give thanks.

(Chorus)

I give You thanks for all Your blessing,

And I give You thanks for all Your testing,

Because even when it seems the enemy’s winning,

I know it’s all been Your plan from the beginning,

That through Your Son You would be forgiving,

So, I worship You and give You my thanks-giving.
